Product Life-cycle

To make the functioning of the system for managing packaging waste and disposable tableware and cutlery, as well as waste electric and electronic equipment (EEE) and goods harmful to the environment (GHE) effective, Latvijas Zaļais punkts is involved in all stages of the management.

Production, sale and consumption of goods
Billions of various goods are produced and sold daily. Companies, assuming the responsibility for the marketed goods set out by the legislation, entrust the management of these goods to LZP and cover the expenses of it.

Educating society
LZP, urging people to sort the packaging of goods, goods harmful to the environment and waste electric and electronic equipment in the households from the total flow of waste, implements projects for educating society.

Delivery to waste separate collection sites
After the consumption of the products, the consumers deliver their packaging to the separate collection containers, but waste electric and electronic equipment and goods harmful to the environment – to special collection sites.

Collection and transportation
Waste management operators transport the sorted packaging waste and collected goods to recycling companies. LZP, in its turn, finances these activities .

Recycling, obtaining of recycled materials and energy
The collected goods are processed by Latvian or foreign companies. GDP finances this process and submits reports on the results to state institutions and annually distributes certificate on accomplishment of the regeneration quotas . The recovered materials are used for the production and packaging of new goods, which are then marketed and reach the consumer. And the cycle resumes.

Control of state institutions
Throughout the whole cycle of activities LZP is supervised by competent state institutions.
