Sorting waste is easy if you remember these simple steps:
Sorting plastic packaging
- Only sort clean packaging. Rinsing the packaging is enough, you don’t need to use dishwashing detergent;
- Flatten plastic bottles before sorting. You will save more space in the container;
- Only put waste packaging in the container for plastic. Do dot use it to dispose of plastic toys, household items or disposable tableware.
Sorting glass packaging
- Only sort clean glass jars and bottles. Rinsing the packaging is enough, you don’t need to use dishwashing detergent;
- You don’t have to remove the labelling or tin foil – it will be removed during the processing;
- Only put packaging into the container for glass. The container is not meant for porcelain and glass tableware, mirrors, windowpanes and light bulbs.
Sorting paper packaging
- Only sort clean and dry paper and cardboard packaging;
- Use the paper and cardboard sorting container for cardboard boxes; newspapers, magazines, brochures, catalogues and other unlaminated promotional material.
- In some municipalities you may also use the paper and cardboard container to sort juice and milks cartoons (e.g. tetra pak). Please see the container for special labelling.
- Flatten cardboard boxes and juice cartoons before sorting. You will save more space in the container.
Pay attention to labelling
Sorting may differ in every region. We advise you to read the information labelling on the container or contact the local waste management organisation before using a separate waste collection container.

Manage sorting at home
Often the reason for not sorting may be the lack of space for another three or four waste bins. Try this simple solution. It is enough to have two waste bins at home to start sorting – one for household waste and one for sorted waste. Before disposing, rinse (and flatten plastic and cardboard) packaging. When your waste bin is full, sort the packaging at the separate waste collection containers.
You will find the addresses of separate waste collection sites (i.e. specially designated areas that accepts all recyclable packaging materials as well as old electric and electronic equipment, power batteries, car tyres, etc.) on our Map of waste sorting locations. Please contact you waste management organisation for the locations of separate waste collection containers.
