Green Dot Trade Mark
The trade mark Green Dot is an internationally registered trade mark and its placement on the packaging ascertains that that producer or the importer has paid for the collection and recycling of packaging waste within the specified territory. Currently the Green Dot trade mark is the most extensively used trade mark in the world . Statistical data indicate that within the EU countries alone more than 640 billions units of packaging are annually labelled with Green Dot mark, since it is an almost mandatory prerequisite to ensure the competitiveness of the product.
Within the territory of the Republic of Latvia Latvijas Zaļais punkts holds the rights to use this trade mark, having concluded the licence agreement with the organisation PRO Europe, which unites 30 national waste packaging management systems that use the Green Dot trade mark.
The aim of PRO Europe is to work for the interests of its members, so that the waste and packaging policy would not restrict the free movement of goods between the EU countries. PRO Europe also ensures the sharing of experience and information between its member organisations; it is engaged in lobbying and advocacy of their interests in the EU institutions. Those companies, which are active also in other countries, can use the mediation of Latvijas Zaļais punkts to receive information on packaging legislation in other PRO Europe countries and on concluding licence agreements with the Green Dot organisations in other European countries on managing packaging waste within the territories of these countries.
The Greed Dot trade mark is legally protected and Latvijas Zaļais punkts is the owner of the sub-licence to this mark within the territory of Latvia.
