Green Dot is a protected, internationally registered trademark and its placement on the packaging of a product purchased in Latvia serves as a proof that the producer or the importer has paid for the collection and recycling of packaging waste in Latvia. Green Dot is currently the most frequently used trademark in the world. According to statistical data, in the EU countries alone more than 640 billion of packaging units are annually labelled with the Green Dot mark as it is an important condition for the product’s competitiveness.
In the territory of Latvia the rights to use this trademark belongs to the JSC „Latvijas Zaļais punkts” that has concluded a licensing agreement with PRO Europe. PRO Europe unites 33 national systems of waste packaging management that use the Green Dot mark. The Green Dot trademark is legally protected. Latvijas Zaļais punkts owns the exclusive right to conclude sub-licence agreements within the territory of Latvia.
The Greed Dot trade mark is legally protected and Latvijas Zaļais punkts is the owner of the sub-licence to this mark within the territory of Latvia. (Only companies that have concluded agreements with Latvijas Zaļais punkts are allowed the Green Dot trademark on their packaging.)
